Funeral Poems For Grandad
A Short Poem for My Nan
When I was young and little,
You were always there,
To hold my hand and make me smile,
To let me know you care.
But now as I’ve grown older,
You of course grew older too,
And sadly now you’ve past away,
I don’t know just what we’ll do.
Grandad, my friend
When at times I faced some struggles,
I could always come to you,
It’s as if you read my mind somehow,
As if you magically knew,
You would find the words to use,
The right phrases you would say,
That’s why I’m sad that you are gone,
Why I share these words today.
From an ever-loving granddaughter
From an ever-loving granddaughter,
To a grandad I adored,
How much fun we both did have,
How we never once got bored.
We’d share our funny stories,
You had many more than me,
But you’d listen, like on tenterhooks,
Your love so clear to see.
We’d play board games past my bedtime,
Or sit quietly, but together,
It’s a shame that life is so damn short,
Why you can’t be here forever.
Short and sweet grandad
Grandad you used very few words,
You thought sentiment was absurd,
But take three words I have for you,
Dear grandad know that
“I love you”.
An empty chair
There in the corner sits a chair,
It’s empty now that you’re not there,
It’s quiet without your laughing roar,
It’s sad that I will hear that laugh no more.
It’s cruel that you had to go,
One day here, the next day, no.
No longer sharing your best thoughts,
The happiness and the joy you brought.
Last orders
How can one man do so much,
To do such good to all they touch,
To make our lives so full of joy,
The gift you had from a young boy.
Treats for those needing a smile,
Warmth for those unloved awhile,
Help, assistance you gave it all,
Our guardian angel, at our call.
But luckily we realised quickly,
Long before you became sickly,
How much joy you brought to others,
Sisters, mothers, sons, dads and brothers.
Just one man
Though you were but
just one man,
It mattered not
you had a plan.
Whether as father
grandad, son,
You were always kind
to everyone.
The memories that
we made together,
Will live within
our hearts forever.
My Grandad made me smile
My grandad always made me smile
when I was just a lad,
I often joke about him
to a friend, a friend I call my dad.
He agrees with me in what I say,
With what I plan to do,
To honour the man who meant so much,
That man of course is you.
Grandad, you were the best
Though you’re gone grandad,
Let’s remember you as a happy lad,
Who grew up to become a dad,
At which we know, you weren’t half bad.
Let’s think of you in many ways,
The joy you brought to many days,
We’ll miss you so, we all will say,
Such a shame you had to go away.
The Way Your were, Grandad
That phrase you used when you were mad,
“Even his mum can’t love that lad!”
The way you smoke a pipe was cool,
When I tried myself, you said “you fool”.
The way you got every first round,
But told me I couldn’t borrow a pound.
The way you had your fav’ pub chair,
And heaven help others who sat there.
The way you swore when you lost a bet,
And cursed your friend’s “best tip yet”.
